Strawberry Banana Smoothies

I have strawberries running through my mind right now. I get so excited when I see those little red beauties show up in the produce section of the grocery store. I know that means summer is coming. And even though the Texas weather has been a bit unpredictable this week, I still can’t get those strawberries out of my head.
Another thing that makes me think of strawberries is the Poteet Strawberry Festival, and it just happens to be going on right now. For more than 60 years, the people of Poteet, Texas, have been sharing and celebrating their amazing strawberry crops with visitors near and far. Poteet is even recognized as the “Strawberry Capital of Texas.”

Meet Dale Murden, a South Texas citrus farmer. Dale has grown fruit in Monte Alto, Texas, since 1980, and you can find his crops both in the fresh produce aisle and with the canned fruit in your local grocery store. In this Meet a Farmer segment, Dale gives us a look at his South Texas citrus crop.

Ah yes, it’s that time of year. The house gets a little quieter as the kids leave to fill the hallways of their schools with excitement for a new school year.
My little Butters isn’t quite old enough for “big kid” school yet, but that doesn’t stop her from talking about it. In fact, she is planning on going from preschool into high school and working on her college degree by the age of 7 or 8. She’s three and has a very active imagination! As a mom, I want to help her become everything she can. I can’t read the books for her or finish her math homework, but I can give her the nourishment she needs to make her brain strong so she will be ready for school when it is her time.
