Sometimes I wonder what all the food fusses are about.

I tell you that because sometimes I too get discouraged. I see Facebook arguments, which can get pretty intense about organics versus natural, or grass fed versus grain fed and a whole host of other food issues.

I see the passion in standing up for what you believe in, but I also see there are bigger issues at play in our day-to-day lives.

I’m fortunate I don’t have to worry about whether or not the food I eat is safe. There are families in other nations that cannot say that. Even if my pantry shelves are bare, I know it’s because I haven’t had time to go to the grocery store and not because I cannot afford food. There are people all across the world, many in our state and nation, who go hungry at night.

So why do we argue about each other’s beliefs? In my opinion, if you can afford organic and prefer it, feel free to shop that way. Organic farmers work hard to provide you with the foods they grow. Traditional farmers and ranchers also work hard to raise meats and grow fruits and vegetables for consumers to eat. It’s safe and affordable. If that’s the route you choose, take it.

Let’s not bash one another for choosing something we don’t agree with. Part of that, I think is prompted by advertisements from food companies saying one is better than the other. I get that. That’s marketing. It’s not always right, but that’s how marketing in America works now. It’s our job to do to the research and to make the choices we feel are best for our families.

You buy what you want, and I’ll buy what I want. Let’s move on and collectively look for the good.
