I was brainstorming with the PR staff before I decided on a recipe for this week’s Back to Basics.

The goal is to have something that is classic, made from scratch and, above all else, super tasty.

As we talked, we kept coming back to sweets. There are few things that rival chocolate in my house and a warm, sweet brownie tops my dessert list.

For Classic Chocolate Brownies, you will need…Chocolate Brownies
1 ½ cups sugar
1 ¼ cups flour
¾ cup salted butter, melted
4 eggs
½ cup cocoa powder
2 tsp. vanilla
½ tsp. baking powder
cooking spray
1 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

Brownies are tasty and very versatile. You can have them warm or cold. With or without icing. Alone or covered with ice cream and fruit. That sounds like an awesome base for any dessert.

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix the sugar, flour, cocoa and baking powder in a large bowl.

Whisk the eggs with vanilla in a second bowl. Once the butter is melted and cooled a bit, add it in as well. Just make sure it isn’t too hot when added to the eggs or they will cook before they even get in the oven.

Now, add the wet ingredients to the dry, stirring constantly. This is when everything gets sticky.

Now add the mini chocolate chips. I like them, but it is totally up to you. You can also switch these out for pecans or walnuts.  Next, pour the batter into a glass 9 X 13 baking dish sprayed with cooking spray.

Bake for 30 minutes. If you aren’t sure they are done, stick a toothpick in the middle of the baked brownies to check for doneness. If it comes out clean, they are good to go.

I really hope you enjoy the recipes we share each week. I would love to share some of yours, too. So send them on in! I can’t wait to try something new. From all of us at Texas Table Top, enjoy!
