I don’t know about you, but this time of year, I spend a lot of time trying to re-create family recipes that may have been lost with the passing of relatives.

Foods like Texas Trash, which is a Chex party mix variation, German noodles, Velveeta queso and purple Jell-o bring back strong memories of family, holidays past and lively conversations among cousins.

Over the years, I’ve been able to re-create versions of our family’s favorite recipes, but it’s never quite right. There was something about my maternal grandmother’s kitchen that made her Texas Trash taste so much better. She often gave a giant container of it to all of us for Christmas.

It was one of our favorite gifts mainly because it was so tasty, but also because we knew she made it just for us.

Our food editor, Kelly Bogard, and I spend a lot of time working on recipes like that to share with you on Texas Table Top. We know that you, too, probably have favorite family recipes that bring back strong memories.

Later this month, we’ll share some of our favorite Christmas cookie recipes as we do a cookie exchange here in the office.

Do you have any favorites that you’d like us to share? Any long lost recipes that you hope someone else has found? Let us know! We’ll do our best to share what we can.
