I’m sure you have noticed me writing about my adventures in motherhood here on Texas Table Top. I absolutely love being a mom to my three-year-old and teaching her about food and cooking.

This week, I brought her into the kitchen with me to cook. Did we have a good time! My nickname for my daughter has always been “Butters.” Kind of fitting, I suppose, with my love for food and her cute little personality. I asked Butters to cook with me this week for a Mother’s Day blog. I decided Breakfast Pizza would be perfect for her to help with in the kitchen.

For Breakfast Pizza, you will need…Breakfast Pizza - ingredients
1 refrigerated pizza dough
1/4 cup salsa
1 lb. breakfast sausage, browned and crumbled
6 eggs
3 tbsp. water
1 to 1-1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Breakfast is a big deal in our house, and it is a perfect meal for Butters to help with. There are plenty of things to stir, blend, pour and spread. Plus, she wears her adorable apron and chef’s hat every time!

Breakfast Pizza - Butters

First things, first. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, in a 12-inch round pizza pan, spread your pizza dough to cover. Make sure to bring it over the lip of the pan so your eggs don’t fall out before cooking.

Next, spread the salsa on top of the pizza crust. This will be your sauce.

After that, top your sauce with the cooked and crumbled sausage, covering the entire crust.

Now whisk together the eggs and water. Once they are mixed well, pour them over the sausage.

Finally, sprinkle with the shredded cheese and bake in the oven for 17-19 minutes or until the eggs are set.

I can’t tell you how much fun it was having Butters join me in the kitchen. It is so important for kids to have the opportunity to spend quality time with their parents and learn from them.

So, share the gift of cooking with your kids this Mother’s Day. You will have an amazing time, and they will love learning from you. Oh, and a hint to the dads out there…You and your kids could make this recipe for your wife and give her the morning off. (Wives, print out the recipe and leave it on the kitchen counter. Maybe they will catch the hint.)

Have a joyful Mother’s Day, and from all of us at Texas Table Top, enjoy!
