Just Peachy Pops

I love making treats for Butters. As we get closer to summer, I was looking for something to make for her – something that would not only fulfill her sweet tooth, but also not make her bounce off the walls like the average four-year old does when something fun is coming soon. Unfortunately, to go along with the fun is the Texas heat. So what could I do to make the unofficial start of summer fun? How about a peach popsicle?

As many of you know, last week was Texas Food Connection Week–a week in which we encourage farmers and ranchers to really connect with consumers to talk with them about where their food, fibers and fuel come from. If calories and nutritional information were listed on your favorite restaurant menu, would it change your order? Last week, McDonald’s announced it will list the calories of all of its food offerings both on its in-store and drive-through menus.
McDonald’s will roll out the new menus nationwide by the end of next year, ahead of a national mandate that would require all restaurants with 20 or more locations to do the same. The idea behind the regulations is that if you inform consumers with caloric information before they make their food choices, then they will be more likely to choose a lower-calorie meal.

Ah yes, it’s that time of year. The house gets a little quieter as the kids leave to fill the hallways of their schools with excitement for a new school year.
My little Butters isn’t quite old enough for “big kid” school yet, but that doesn’t stop her from talking about it. In fact, she is planning on going from preschool into high school and working on her college degree by the age of 7 or 8. She’s three and has a very active imagination! As a mom, I want to help her become everything she can. I can’t read the books for her or finish her math homework, but I can give her the nourishment she needs to make her brain strong so she will be ready for school when it is her time.
