There’s nothing I like better than a good burger. Thick and juicy with all my favorite toppings, you just can’t beat it most any time of year. But I think of burgers as more of a summer food. I guess because so many are grilled, but they don’t have to be.

This week, I want to show you a way to make a good burger even better by adding one ingredient–an egg. A fried egg to be exact. Over medium is how I prefer my eggs, but I have eaten them many ways. The key to this burger, though, is to make sure you have just enough yolk running down the burger to make it not only tasty, but a little messy, too.

For Fried Egg Burgers, you will need…FriedEggBurger
2 1/3-lb. burger patties
2 slices thick-cut bacon
2 eggs
2 slices cheddar cheese
2 buns
your favorite toppings and condiments

I made this recipe for two people, but of course it is easy to make it for more. I think it would be a great date night meal.

Start by seasoning your burger patties on both sides with salt and pepper. Next, cook in a frying pan over medium heat. While the burgers are cooking, cut your bacon slice in half and set them to fry in a smaller skillet.

Once the bacon is crisp on both sides, remove them from the pan and let the oil cool down just a little bit. Place the cheese on the burgers and remove them from the heat as well.

I say to cool just a bit on the bacon grease because now you’re going to use it to fry the egg. You just don’t want the grease super hot, because the egg will cook too fast and you will lose the runny yolk.

Top the burger with two pieces of crisscrossed bacon.

Add the fried egg on top of the bacon. Be careful when you do this to not break the yolk.

Move everything over to the buns and top with your favorite burger toppings and condiments. As you can see, I like mine without all the extras. Veggies are always good, but I want the true flavor of the meats and eggs on this burger.

This protein-packed burger is great for almost every occasion. As long as you can handle a little mess. I promise the flavors are worth it. From all of us at Texas Table Top, enjoy!
